About:
Hi, I’m David Barnes, co-founder of Peace of Mind Overtures. Together with Sue-Anne MacGregor, I helped create the Alignment Movie Process (AMP), a practical way to recognize and move beyond the emotional patterns shaping our lives.
Over the years, I’ve become increasingly interested in how much of our behavior is influenced by old experiences, fears, and assumptions we don’t even realize we’re carrying. We can be intelligent, thoughtful, and well-intentioned people and still find ourselves reacting in ways that keep us stuck or separated from others.
That’s a big part of why we created AMP. We wanted to make emotional pattern recognition something ordinary people could experience and use in everyday life, without having to master complicated theories.
And what better way to begin than with a good movie?
The Origin of Peace Overtures
Peace Overtures wasn’t named for politics. It was named for music.
During my years with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, after hundreds of concerts across the United States and Europe, I came to appreciate that extraordinary musical talent doesn’t automatically produce harmony. Musicians have to listen to one another, make room for different voices, and find their way into the music together.
That became a meaningful metaphor for my work. I founded Peace Overtures around the idea of introducing the mind to the heart, much like an overture introduces the music we’re about to hear.
Whether we’re talking about a symphony, a family, or a community, something changes when we become more capable of hearing one another. We don’t have to agree on everything, but we can learn to make better music together.
What Is AMP?
AMP uses familiar films, guided reflection, and simple Let Go and Allow statements to help people recognize emotional patterns they may not have noticed before.
Sometimes a character’s struggle helps us recognize something in ourselves: an old fear, a need to be right, or a familiar reaction that keeps showing up in our relationships. The purpose isn’t to force change or tell anyone what to believe. It’s to help make a different response possible.
That’s what we mean by moving beyond reactivity.
Why It Matters Now
We’re entering a time when artificial intelligence may become extraordinarily good at helping us understand the world and one another. But greater intelligence doesn’t automatically produce greater wisdom.
AI might help us discover that people who strongly disagree actually share many of the same hopes and concerns. Yet knowing we have something in common doesn’t necessarily mean we’re emotionally able to trust one another.
That’s where AMP has something to offer. We need more than better information. We also need ways to recognize the emotional patterns that keep us from experiencing what we already understand.

Who We Serve and What’s Next
AMP was developed for individuals, but the same patterns show up in families, classrooms, workplaces, and communities. We’ve created sessions for different ages and experiences, making the process accessible without requiring special training.
We’re also exploring an AI-guided AMP experience that could make this work more personal and accessible, helping people recognize emotional patterns and build on what they’ve discovered over time. Privacy, individual choice, and moving at your own pace will remain central to that vision.
The technology isn’t the point. It’s a way to make the human experience of AMP available to more people.
