Here’s an AI generated overview of this post.
In my 15 years of working on human emotional patterns, I've come to understand that peace of mind isn't a sudden achievement that transforms your life into eternal bliss. Rather, it's a journey of discovering how to lead a balanced life, which requires ongoing practice. I co-developed the Alignment Movie Process (AMP) to assist not only myself but also others in shedding the layers of patterns that often ensnare our minds and prevent them from aligning with our hearts.
Our ways of interacting with the world are heavily influenced by the resonance patterns passed down through generations. These tendencies shape our perception of the world around us. Unfortunately, for many of us, these deep-seated beliefs and emotional patterns confine us, leaving us unaware of the potential for joy and fulfillment in our lives.
If you ever find yourself feeling restricted in any aspect of your life, and if you believe that something is holding you back from experiencing true happiness and joy, then I encourage you to explore this week's AMP film: The Theory of Everything (2014). It may just provide the insights and inspiration you need.
The Theory of Everything is a 2014 British film directed by James Marsh, inspired by Jane Wilde Hawking's memoir, Traveling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen. The movie focuses on Jane's relationship with her ex-husband, the renowned theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking.
The film narrates the journey of how the couple confronted Stephen's diagnosis of motor neuron disease, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, and remarkably, how it had minimal impact on his groundbreaking achievements in the field of physics.
As you immerse yourself in the experience of watching The Theory of Everything, keep an eye out for these key lessons that are part of this week's AMP session:
Embrace The World Just as It Is.
When Stephen Hawking received his diagnosis of Lou Gehrig's disease, his doctor's prognosis was bleak, giving him just about two years to live. Remarkably, this remains the standard prognosis today. As you watch the film, take note of how Professor Hawking always seems to have a twinkle in his eyes, both before and after the onset of the disease. He appears to swiftly accept his condition as it is and persists in his research. He simply finds new approaches to continue his work.
Even as the disease progresses, he maintains a sense of acceptance most of the time. Of course, there are moments when he feels down and despondent, especially when he loses his ability to speak. However, notice how quickly he adapts, finding the perfect tools to continue his work, without dwelling on the pain of unmet expectations about how life should be.
Professor Hawking's journey serves as a testament to his ability to accept and adapt to the circumstances he faced, ultimately finding a practice of acceptance. Pema Chodron's wisdom, as shared in her book Living Beautifully with Uncertainty and Change, reinforces this idea:
"The everyday practice is simply to develop a complete acceptance and openness to all situations and emotions, and to all people, experiencing everything fully, without mental reservations and blockages, so that one never withdraws or becomes overly self-focused."
As Pema Chodron further explains: "In simpler terms, the practice at this stage is to face your experiences, all of them, without turning away.” This includes embracing all facets of your life, even the moments of disappointment and pain. When you find it challenging to do this for yourself, allow others to assist you.
Notice this this dynamic unfold after Stephen's diagnosis with the disease. He initially wants to withdraw from the world, feeling overwhelmed by the situation. However, Jane refuses to allow him to isolate himself, conveying that if he wants her to be a part of his life, he must actively participate. This underscores the significance of mutual support and acceptance in navigating life's challenges.
Release Your Life Disappointments
We often hold expectations of what constitutes a happy and perfect life, but in reality, life frequently falls short of these ideals. We become ensnared in the relentless pursuit of more money, more love, more time, and more of everything else.
At other times, we become trapped in the grip of our emotional, physical, and mental pain. This too is a form of clinging that immobilizes us.
Watch how swiftly Professor Hawking relinquishes his attachment and discovers new ways to navigate his illness, particularly in the scene where he loses his ability to speak. Notice how the introduction of a new communication device allows him to speak again, allowing his humor to shine through.
It's helpful to remember that the narratives we construct for ourselves play a pivotal role in both our pursuit of happiness and our attachment to pain. These stories ultimately shape our sense of disappointment. The empowering truth is that we have the power to change these narratives at any point in our lives.
If you’re feeling stuck in a swirl of life disappointments, this week's AMP film can assist you in energetically releasing this heaviness in your life.
Free Yourself from The Boundaries of Your Story
So many of us have constructed narratives about our lives that act as self-imposed limitations, preventing us from expanding in peace and happiness. These narratives often revolve around defining ourselves based on our occupations, marital status, financial situation, or the trials we've faced. In many cases, these identities broadcast our pain, effectively announcing to the world that our past traumas, ongoing health struggles, or other hardships define who we are. These stories serve only to confine us in a mental bondage that bears no relation to our true essence.
When we allow our hearts to become entangled with these narratives, we obstruct our ability to experience the profound wonder that resides within each of us. Moreover, it hinders us from recognizing the divinity present in others.
By freeing ourselves from the self-imposed constraints of our narratives, we become more attuned to the present moment—the good and the bad it may contain. It's in this moment alone that we can discover genuine peace and happiness.
I like this quote from Jack Kornfield's book, A Path With Heart:
“When the stories of our life no longer bind us, we discover within them something greater. We discover that within the very limitations of form, of our maleness and femaleness, of our parenthood and our childhood, of gravity on the earth and the changing of the seasons, is the freedom and harmony we have sought for so long. Our individual life is an expression of the whole mystery, and in it, we can rest in the center of the movement, the center of all worlds.”
Always remember, your life possesses intrinsic value simply because you exist. Period. There's no need to strive endlessly to create a narrative that imparts meaning and purpose. These ways of thinking stem from the fearful mind and not from your greater self.
You are limitless beyond comprehension.
Your Spirit Knows No Bounds
Despite Professor Hawking's physical limitations, his spirit knows no boundaries, and he continually draws inspiration from the limitless possibilities of the universe.
It's important to recognize that we are far more than our thinking, and many of us underestimate the profound brilliance and divinity that is our birthright.
Notice Professor Hawking's eyes twinkle throughout the movie, as if he has tapped into a higher level of consciousness and is aware that his spirit transcends the limitations of his physical form. A wonderful example of this is when he finds himself tangled in his sweater while gazing at a fire in the grate. Instead of getting frustrated, he simply relaxes and focuses on the fire, which sparks inspiration for the latest theory he's working on. This scene serves as a reminder that when you can get your mind off your problems, solutions are revealed.
One of Professor Hawking's remarkable statements, made in response to a question about his life philosophy during a lecture, inspires all of us:
“There should be no boundaries to human endeavor. We are all different. However bad life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at. While there's life, there is hope.”
Always remember that your spirit is boundless, unrestricted, and formidable—unfailingly so.
Be Present and Embrace the Learning
Life's very nature is uncertain, marked by constant change. This uncertainty and perpetual change can often make life challenging and, at times, painful. However, when you make the choice to embark on a path that leads you back to your heart, it's essential to be willing to fully engage with the present moment and learn from everything that unfolds.
I've come to understand that our struggles, emotional reactions, and pain act as the contrast necessary for the transformative changes we aspire to make within ourselves.
Contrast, in essence, becomes our master teacher. Yet, if we're not fully present and available to perceive it, we risk missing out on the valuable lessons it offers—the coursework of life.

I love reading these reminders. It brings to mind Eckhart Tolle's encounter with SH, when he didn't know who the famed scientist was, and felt sorry for the man being spoon-fed at the Cambridge cafeteria. He later heard Mr. Hawking say: "Who could have asked for more?" It amazes me how one person's example of total acceptance can resonate through so many.
